What should I do to start getting more paid collaborations?
We currently coach hundreds of influencers on our Collaboration Clinic with their transition from product exchange and commission based collaborations to fully paid work. The steps you need to take to start getting paid collabs vary depending on where you currently stand as an influencer, but most often you should work on your account metrics, your pitch and your deal flow.
First of all, you will need to have a sufficient follower count that allows you to charge for your collaborations. If you have under 5000 followers most brands will suggest to you work on product exchange, gifting your the product in exchange for a review. Also, your engagement rate should be above average and the reach of your posts should be sufficiently high to justify the pay. We work on these aspects together with you in our Collaboration Clinic. You can access the clinic by saying “Hey Ava” on Facebook messenger and click the Collab Clinic button!
Second, you have to have a good media kit and clear offering to brands. Make a rate card and be confident and comfortable about the service you're selling to the brands. In your media kit, display previous collaborations so that the brands know what they're purchasing. You can ask Vimma to help you with your Media Kit if you are unsure how to create one.
The third step is to take care of your deal flow. You will need to make sure you have enough collaboration requests from brands - some of the brands you're negotiating with simply do not have budget, so make sure you focus on negotiating with the brands that do. Reach out to brands and sign up to a lot of offers. Answer every email and DM quickly and diligently, and qualify your opportunities. Be always very professional when you negotiate your deals, even if every deal would not result in a paid project. Talk to us if you feel like you do not have enough deal flow, if brands are not accepting your pricing, or you need help negotiating your deals!
How much should I charge for a collaboration?
The average market pricing for sponsored Instagram influencer content is $10 per thousand followers. In other words, if you have 1000 followers, brands might consider paying you $10, and if you have 10 000 they might pay $100 for a sponsored post.
This depends though, as some brands will pay considerably less or more depending on multiple factors. Keep in mind, that brands often factor in the price of their product, and the cost of shipping it to you. For example, if you have 5000 followers, and the product and shipping costs $50, the brand would likely suggest gifting you the product in exchange for a review. Other considerations are your account metrics (for example, engagement, reach, impressions) and the quality of your content.
